As One

Declan woke up unsettled only an hour after bedtime last night. While he started out a poor sleeper as a newborn and young baby, he’s gotten progressively better with time, and nowadays he usually only wakes up once/night (for a bottle). I waited a few minutes, but could tell by his fussing that he was not going to settle himself back down to sleep. Cue mom to the rescue.

I wonder why they wake up sometimes. His sometimes too loving sister shared her pink eye with him, so maybe that was bothering him. And he’s also still working on cutting the first 2 of his molars. So maybe that was it. He settled down as soon as I picked him up. So maybe he just needed an extra snuggle. If only babies could talk!

I sat down in the rocking chair and cuddled him in close. How lucky am I that I can still cradle my almost 15 month old baby…his head resting in the nook of my elbow, his long torso stretched out across my chest and tummy, his little legs tucked into my side. And best of all? His heart beating right against mine. Like we were one. Almost like we once were…when his heart was beating inside of me.

It made me think of this Pinterest find.

This was taken last month when he was sick with an ear infection. I don’t have too many photos of him sleeping…with his history of being a bad sleeper…I can’t take the risk of waking him up!

About Tammy

I am a single mother to 2 wonderful children, ages 1 and 5. My youngest was surprisingly born with a rare genetic condition, achondroplasia, which is a type of dwarfism. This blog is a glimpse into my crazy life as I wade through figuring out dwarfism and divorce while enjoying every second of my deficient domestic bliss.
