A Decidedly Domestic Day

It seems like we’re always running around. To school, to this class, to that appointment. I am not a morning person (my, how motherhood changes that!), and plenty of mornings I want nothing more than to start the day off slowly and ease into things with a warm cup of coffee. However…the 4 year old who bounces out of bed every day with an enthusiastic ‘What are we going to do today, MOM?!’ and a baby who wakes and wants out of the crib instantly means no easing into anything.

Overall, the days where we get out and do this or that are better days. The day gets broken up, we get fresh air, Makenna gets social, physical and mental stimulation, and I get to converse with people over the age of 4. But there are days where it’s good to stay home. When it’s needed. Today was one of those days. On these housebound days, I usually start getting an itch, late afternoon…telling me we need to get out. For the safety and survival of us all (kidding), we’ll jaunt out of house briefly (run to the store, go for a drive, go for a walk). But today I didn’t get the itch. We had a good day doing some much needed catch up on domestic stuff (such as the 18, okay maybe 5, loads of laundry that I got done).

It’s good to slow down sometimes. I need the busyness of running around most of the time countered by a good, slow homemade-chicken-soup-for-lunch kind of day. Ebb and flow, ying and yang. Plus, Declan deserved a much-needed, good (long) nap in his crib today.

Domestic bits…

Makenna’s gone crazy with drawing and practicing her printing lately. This is just a sample of today’s work. She also has a stack of crafts/drawings/paintings from preschool every time I pick her up. Seriously. I love it, but what do I do with it all?!null

We made these…

My “go to” muffin recipe. Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. So yummy, pretty healthy, and so easy to make. Recipe here.
One of my favourite Pinterest scores. Pumpkin and Cheese Spice Bread. Whoever thought of the baked cream cheese topping. Genius, pure genius. Recipe here.

About Tammy

I am a single mother to 2 wonderful children, ages 1 and 5. My youngest was surprisingly born with a rare genetic condition, achondroplasia, which is a type of dwarfism. This blog is a glimpse into my crazy life as I wade through figuring out dwarfism and divorce while enjoying every second of my deficient domestic bliss.
