I’m going to tell you a little story. A story about a little organization. It’s an organization for little people. It is the Little People of British Columbia (LPBC). Yeah, I had never heard of them either. That is…until a new mom of a precious little *little* bundle was fumbling her way around Google one night in a desperate and curious search to find any and every thing and resource out there. The need to find others in my shoes, the need to connect with people who’ve been there, who are there. And I found them, a little website with a little bit of information. More searching and posting and introducing myself to various groups, and I managed to connect with someone from LPBC. The instant warm welcome I received, along with resources and support was immediate and heartfelt. Since then we have met other members and families who are a part of LPBC, and I couldn’t be more thankful and excited that this little group exists in British Columbia. It is a small group with limited resources, but big ideas.

The organization recently received very exciting news that they have been selected as a shortlisted nominee in the 2012 Benefit Brew Competition. This means that LPBC has their own beer (Marzan-Oktoberfest, because October is Dwarfism Awareness Month) and will go up against the other nominees in a voting contest. The winning organization will partner with Victoria’s Phillips Brewing Company to produce a custom craft beer and full proceeds from the sale of that beer will be donated to the chosen cause. This is huge and could mean big things for this little organization, whose members may be small in stature but have big hearts and big dreams.

Voting begins on November 1st (today!) and goes until November 18th. You can vote once/day. We are up against a number of really great nominees, some of which are much more well known. But I believe we have a chance. I believe we can win. Winning this contest could mean huge things for LPBC. And that means huge things for my little guy.

About Tammy

I am a single mother to 2 wonderful children, ages 1 and 5. My youngest was surprisingly born with a rare genetic condition, achondroplasia, which is a type of dwarfism. This blog is a glimpse into my crazy life as I wade through figuring out dwarfism and divorce while enjoying every second of my deficient domestic bliss.
